What's the biggest secret behind a successful life coach consistency. Welcome to the consistent coach podcast. I'm your host, Stacy Mitchell and I help coaches simplify their businesses and their marketing so they can easily stay consistent, get clients and grow their income, using the power of routine habit , building a neuro-plasticity because you don't need to do and be all the things to be successful. You just need to be consistent.:
Hello and welcome back to a brand new episode of the consistent coach podcast. I am super excited to be with you today and talking about something that is really near and dear to my heart, which is how to become a thought leader and attract more coaching clients. This is about so much more than just showing up on social media and sending out a newsletter and blogging or creating a podcast, whatever it may be. This is the thing that can really shift the direction of your business. So we're going to get into that today, but before I just want to give everyone updates. You know, there's something that is hard about podcasts and it's that I struggle with connecting with all of you on this deeper level. I think that's the hardest part about podcasts for me. The thing that I love so much about being over on Instagram stories, which I am most days, most w ork d ays, is that I can interact with all of you.Stacie:
When you get to see what's going on in my everyday life on the podcast, I'm coming, I'm showing up, you're getting my thought leadership, right? But I never were very rarely. Occasionally some of you will reach out, which is awesome, but I don't get to interact with you. So I want to tell you a little bit about what's going on in my world. It has been, I can hardly believe it as I'm recording this. It's been five months since I quit my full-time job. And I was telling my husband the other day, it feels like it's been a lot longer than five months. And it feels like I have been a full-time entrepreneur forever. And I mean that in a very good way, it sorta feels like this is what it was always supposed to be my entire life. Like, it feels like this is just the most natural thing that's ever happened.:
And I know, and I'm getting kind of like teary just thinking about it. But it's weird to think that I was questioning whether or not this is going to work out because it has worked out so much better than I thought that it would and giving myself the time and the space and the capacity to do this work has just completely changed my life to be really honest with you. And it's been a really incredible experience. And in fact, right now we are about to move or about to move to Colorado from North Carolina. And it is just so exciting to see all these big dreams come true. And I recently posted, I think yesterday on my Instagram story, this letter that I had written to myself in October, 2019, I was finishing up coach training at Raleigh Cushing academy. And in that process, they have you write a letter to yourself and then they send you that letter.Stacie:
And in my letter, I basically said the things that I wanted to manifest, which was a successful business, which check and other things, which are a little more personal, but one of those things was I want to move to the mountains. Like I want to live in the mountains and we're doing it. Like we're removing super close to the mountains and I am just so thrilled for everything that's coming. And I just appreciate all of you so much who have been a part of this journey. So I wanted to tell you all of that before we get started. So let's get down into how to become a thought leader and how that attracts more coaching clients to you naturally.:
First, I just want to say the belief in yourself in this area is so important. You are not just a coach. You are a thought leader. I want you to tell yourself that a lot, because it is true. The more you tell yourself, the more it is true, what you have to say matters. And it's different from what anyone else has to say. And if you want clients to start reaching out to you without even having to necessarily sell to them, which is amazing, you need to first believe that you are the best solution to whatever problem you're helping them solve. Cause I just want to say, they're not going to believe it until you believe it. And I am not trying to say that this kind of belief is easy to build. It can be really, really hard. And imposter syndrome loves to pop up.Stacie:
As soon as you start building this kind of belief in yourself, the little niggling thoughts come in that are like, Ooh, no, I am not good at this. Or I don't know what I'm talking about, whatever they are. These things happened to me too, by the way, I'm not immune to these kinds of thoughts. And I really think that this is one of the reasons niching down and creating one signature program can be so helpful because you start to see evidence that you are the expert in your area. You work with clients, you help them and you grow your own confidence. And I just want to tell you that when you start doing this, when you start believing that you're a thought leader in your area, your brain is going to tell you all kinds of stories about yourself and it's going to feel really uncomfortable.:
It is something that I think takes action. And that's why I think with action comes clarity with action comes confidence. And I know it's sort of the chicken and the egg, like you need the confidence to show up. And I think that's true, but at the same time, if you never show up, it's really hard to be confident. And sometimes you have to do things in discomfort. Many times I have to do things and discomfort in my business. And I just want you to really think about who you want to be in your business and how you want to become the go-to person for the problem that you're solving with your coaching. How do you understand your client so well that you become that person? And that really brings me to the second thing. Aside from your belief in yourself, I want you to start, and this is going to sound a little weird, but this is true.Stacie:
I want you to start obsessing over your idle clients. What are their thoughts? What are their problems? What are they telling themselves? What are their stories? Where do they get stuck? What obstacles do they have to overcome to solve their problem? I want you to think about the stories that are in there, which we'll get into that in a second. I want you to really think about your clients, where are they hanging out? What are their friends telling them? What are their family telling them? And I know this is weird, but I think getting really into what your clients most need from you and your coaching and your solution is what starts to set you apart as a thought leader. And you may be thinking, but I was taught this really specific coaching model. And I'm not telling you to throw that out, right? Keep using your tools and what you've learned in coach training or what you've learned in whatever training you've been in. But also start thinking about your own intellectual property and start thinking about how you can create really specific solutions to the problems that your clients have.:
What do you want to call things that you see coming up in your clients over and over and over again? What is your framework for helping your clients start really thinking about this? And I encourage you to do this early and yes, your niche may shift and it's totally fine. But I also think getting into this mindset of being a thought leader in whatever niche you're currently in can only help you grow. And it actually, I think helps you be aware of when your niche is shifting it . You may not even know it because being obsessed with your client's problems, you might start to realize it's not actually X it's Y right? It's not the thing that you thought it was, it's something else. And that helps you become that expert. When you realize it. I also encourage you to find the stories, thought leaders love telling stories.Stacie:
They are everywhere, and everyone loves a good story. So I want to give you an example yesterday. I was in my car. I was going for the first massage I've had since the end of the pandemic, because I'm fully vaccinated and so excited about it. And I, I was listening to, and you're going to all laugh at me, but I was listening to tiny dancer. It was actually on Amazon music. So not on Spotify or Pandora, but it was on like a random shuffle. And I liked the song, tiny dancer, and I was singing really hard to myself. But then I was like, okay, I'm kind of over the song right now. And I want, I want something else. I want to do different song . And the thought that popped into my head was, but what if I shift to another song and it's not any good?:
Like I like tiny dancer. What if I shifted to a song that I hate and I immediately, so you realized, oh, like that is such a brain mindset problem that so many people deal with. So I originally came from a career coaching background and I see it all the time, or I used to see it all the time when I was career coaching clients. What if I quit my job and I get a new job and it's, so it's this fear of something worse. Like I'm going to stick with this thing that I just sort of like, because I'm too scared to shift to something new. So think of how powerful that story could be. If I was career coach, you could even apply that to changing your niche too . Like this song is pretty good and it's working out for me. Okay? I don't want to change. What if it's a song I just hate , right? But this is all to say. You can find nine stories everywhere. You can find stories about mindset everywhere. You can find stories about abundance and scarcity everywhere. You find it in your kids, your dog, your friends, your own mind, and your own life stories are everywhere. And they really helped to illustrate your thought leadership, your approach, to coaching your approach, to solving a problem.Stacie:
My next tip piece of advice. This is big. Stop listening and reading content in your field. I know this is really hard. I love to learn, but I will say when I was a burnout coach, I tried very hard to stay away from burnout content. And there's a lot of content about burnout. And in fact, people would send me content all the time, which I think is so funny. They would send me books, podcasts, but I didn't really want to read or listen to them. And I know that sounds very strange for some of you. You're like what? But I tried to stay away because I didn't want to sound like every other burnout coach. I didn't want to sound like everyone else that was talking about burnout. I wanted my own framework. I wanted my own approach. So instead I paid very, very close attention to my clients, to what my audience was experiencing.:
I paid attention to what I experienced in burnout, and really tried to put words to that and illustrate it. I paid attention to what people said about burnout and Facebook groups. And I paid attention because I still love to learn to help other topics that I was interested in learning about applied to burn out and new and different in ways, because new is compelling. And if you have something new to say, people love to listen. People love theories and just know that you can be wrong. Sometimes it's just a theory . And you can say, I wonder, you know, you could jump on your email or your Instagram and say, I'm seeing this come up. And I feel like this applies to burn out because , because it doesn't have to be this really well-researched concept for you to put it out into the world. Now I'm not saying like, you go and say, I have the secret for healing, your burnout, that I've never tried on anybody.Stacie:
Not telling you to do that by the way, but just think about whether or not you were giving your brain, the space to create something new for the problem that you're coaching around. And then finally, this is a weird one, too. What's the hill you'll die on. Meaning what do you know? So deeply to be true, prove as a coach, that there is no one that could ever change your mind about , and if you haven't noticed yet, I hope you have. Cause you'll sit into this. Mine is the power of consistency and that doesn't just mean consistent action. It's consistent mindset, consistent message, consistent action and consistent client experience. And consistency does not mean boring or that it's punishment, consistency. It can be fun. And it doesn't have to be a one size fits all approach either. It also doesn't mean doing all the things all the time.:
Cause that's that's, I am the opposite of that. And I truly believe that it is next to impossible to build a coaching business without consistency. And that's why it's the core of my message. I will die on that hill. Right. So what does that feel for you? What message would you go to battle over? I want you to spend some time really thinking about it because this generally is where your thought leadership comes to life in your industry, in your problem. And what's your coaching on what do you know to be so true that you get fired up about it and you can't stop talking about it really. And truly, I want you to think about it because for me, the power of consistency over time is the only way to build a successful coaching business. And very few people really, really talk about it.Stacie:
And that's why it is the hill. I will die on because it's not super sexy, but it is. It's inevitable that that will work. So what is that for you? I really, really wanted to spend some time and think about it, get out your journal. What is the message that you would go to battle over when it comes to your clients? What do you need them to know? That is different from anything else out there and just know you might be thinking, oh my message. Isn't different. There are other coaches talking about this. There is not a coach exactly like you in the entire world because you are, you, you are unique. So really think what is it about your approach that is different? What is it about you that is different? What is it about your story? The way that you work with clients that is different. Take a minute and really think about this. I really encourage you to do this. Woo . I got fired up there. So thought leadership really is about stepping up, owning your message, owning the thing that you know, to be true for you and for your business and for your clients and for the problem that you solve and not being afraid to get in front of people and talk about it. That is thought leadership. And that truly is what gets clients to reach out to you. You do not need to chase your clients. I actually have a post-it note above my desk right now that says I do not chase. I attract and thought leadership is part of that. Clients want to work with me because of my thoughts about coaching, because of my thoughts about business coaching, because of my framework around consistency, because of my different approach than any other business strategist or business coach out there. And they want you to start believing this about yourself. And if you are ready to build this message for yourself to build this kind of thought leadership coaching business, I am here for you. I just released not long ago. My brand new program, the consistent coach, I am so excited about it. And I actually sold two spots in it without ever even talking about it. And that is thought leadership, my friends, not even having to talk about a program. That's amazing. So the consistent coach is five months of high touch coaching and done with you strategy to create rock solid business foundations and a super simple and effective marketing plan. If you are a coach who is struggling to stay consistent, to stay consistent with your message, you're niching your offer. If you're always ping-ponging around marketing strategies and what you offer your people and, you know, redoing your website all the time and just trying like all the things and throwing spaghetti at the wall, this program is for you. You are going to walk away with some amazing tangibles, but more importantly than that, you're going to walk away with the consistent coach approach, right? So you're going to be able to show up consistently in your business in a way that feels really good for you. And that is created just for you. So you can easily stay consistent over time, which truly is the magic. That is the magic of consistent clients and consistent income and this kind of coaching program. I honestly, because this is one-on-one, I have seen this go for $10,000 plus, and I don't know if these will still be available by the time this podcast comes out, but I am taking two clients at a celebratory launch rate of 39, 97 or $800 a month.
